Personality: Instinctive || Honorable || Fair || Hopeless Romantic
-- Instinctive; Harestar is very good about following his instincts. If something feels off, whether he knows exactly what it is or not, he usually questions or avoids it. This trait is also portrayed in his leadership. When making decisions or reacting to certain things that need an authoritative outlook, he may sometimes go with whatever his gut tells him to. Harestar does not let his senses rule his life however. He knows that sometimes going with the first things that occurs to you can be bad, and may lead to injury or other unexpected consequences.
-- Honorable; At the core of this tom is a very honorable soul. This is his greatest asset, as well as his greatest flaw. Because of his desire to be moral, he is incapable of lying [very well]. He would much rather tell the truth and bare the consequences than to lie, and was often considered the 'odd man out' when he was an apprentice. Living by the Warrior Code is a good way to get into his good books, not letting it consume you but to never be swayed from what you know is right.
-- Fair; Along with his sense of honor, Harestar feels that every cat is entitled to have his/her side of the story told, or for their ideals to be heard. If a cat is to be punished it will not be without very careful deliberation. A cat can rest knowing that while Harestar is in charge, the punishment will fit the crime. Likewise, if a cat deserves to be rewarded, they will be justly rewarded and praised.
-- Hopeless Romantic; If Harestar were to ever fall in love, he'd fall hard and fast. He'd be the type to think of dorky poems or get stung on the nose while trying to pick flowers for the object of his affections. The leader would also likely stumble over his words if brought into conversation with his crush unexpectedly. [It would also be rather obvious to everyone else that he's falling, but he'd think he was being subtle].
History: Preconception || Kithood || Apprenticeship || Warrior || Deputy || Leader
Preconception; Harestar's mother, Sandtail, was a pretty little cream she-cat, whom quite a few toms sought after. She was lithe and an impressive hunter as well, but was known to be stubborn and was once though to be the type to never take a mate simply because she was to opinionated to make such a connection. Which is why it was a surprise when it was discovered that she had taken the quiet Oakwhisker as a mate. [though most assumed it was because he never really argued with her.] Despite being quite different, their love flourished and soon Sandtail was expecting kits. About two moons later, on a warm new-leaf day, Harestar and his siblings were born.
Kithood; Sandtail always told Harestar that the most peaceful time she had while raising him and his siblings was when their eyes were still closed. As a kitten it seemed that he would never stay still for to long, always eager to explore or attempting to leave the nursery. He never would get to far in those first few weeks, however; due to his then poor motor skills or his mother ushering him back to their nest. She would eventually have her paws full as his siblings would soon begin to join in on his escape attempts, and it is quite hard for a single she-cat to round up three kits all shakily bounding in every direction.
When she felt they were old enough, Sandtail finally allowed Harekit and his siblings out of the cramped nursery. This lead to a whole new set of problems, one being that the kits always seemed to be under someones' paws. They always listened though when Sandtail told them not to stray to far from her, and were never more then a few long stride away from her. Younger Harestar loved being out of the nursery. The sun was always warm and there was always something new to discover, such as a leaf that had been knocked loose, or a stray bug to chase. Being out in the open also gave him and his siblings more room to wrestle or play. But what Harekit had really liked about it all was watching the warriors coming and going, some with new pray and others without. They always seemed so busy, but the cats always looked content. The tiny tom couldn't wait to be an apprentice.
Time seemed to pass in the blink of an eye and soon Harekit and his sibling were being named apprentices. Harekit, recently renamed Harepaw, was given the warrior tom Thistleheart as a mentor.
Apprentice; Thistleheart, as Harepaw soon learned, was probably one of the least likable warriors within the clan. During his apprenticeship Harepaw was constantly reprimanded for being so curious and easy getting distracted. The apprentice's training sessions were often filled with repetitive exercises meant to perfect his form and abilities.Because of this, Harepaw often didn't know as much as other apprentices did. The only time Harestar truly enjoyed his time as an apprentice was when all of the apprentices and mentors got together to train. He was allowed a larger variety of things when this occurred, as well as being able to joke and play with other cats his age.
Three moons into Harepaw's apprenticeship, Thistleheart was attacked and killed by a fox while out on patrol. Other warriors that were with him were able to chase off the red creature and get the tom back to camp, but Thistleheart succumb to his injuries shortly after. Despite frequently being at odds with his mentor, Harepaw was saddened by his death. He promised himself that he would train extra hard to become a warrior that Thistleheart would be proud of. A week later Hollytail, a seasoned she-cat warrior, was assigned to be his new mentor.
Hollytail had a different way of teaching Harepaw, an it seemed to work better for him then constant repetition. With a kinder, more understanding mentor watching over him, the tom began to flourish as an apprentice. His showed greater skill in combat than hunting however, and when it came time for him to become a warrior he was given the name Hareclaw.
Warrior; After becoming a warrior, Hareclaw quickly realized that being a warrior wasn't everything he thought it would be. The amount of duties overwhelmed him at first. However; Hareclaw wasn't one to shrink away from a challenge and quickly fit into his new role. One day, while out on a border patrol with three other warriors and an apprentice, they came across a hunting patrol from another clan that had crossed the border. Tempers flared and a short skirmish ensued. An apprentice from the other clan was killed in this battle by a NightClan warrior, which lead to Hareclaw having harsh words with them. The two still don't speak that often.
Three moons later Hareclaw was given his first apprentice, Robinpaw. Robinpaw was probably one of his more agreeable apprentices. She was patient and willing to please. Hareclaw always felt a bit bad that in their first few moons together he had no idea what he was doing and often messed up. Eventually he settled on a mixture between Thistleheart and Hollytail. This training style seemed to work for Robinpaw and she flourished while under his care. During this time Pinewhisker, the deputy at the time, stepped down from his position because he felt that he was to old to continue performing his duties. At sundown Hollytail was named the new deputy of NightClan. A while later Robinpaw was given her warrior name, Robintooth.
Around this time Hareclaw begins to fall for a pretty silver she-cat named Blueheart, whom had been an apprentice around the same time as himself. She turns out to be everything he could have asked for and he falls far for her in a short time. However, whatever romance that blossoms between the two is quickly snuffed out when a particularly aggressive stretch of whitecough hits the clan and takes Blueheart with it. The tom is left heartbroken and a little lost in the world and retreats in on himself, barely speaking to anyone.
He isn't quite sure how much time passes after this, but Hareclaw finally begins to speak to others again, and the sting of losing Blueheart lessen [he never stops loving her though, he doesn't think he ever will] and he is able to function much like he used to. His leader seems to take this as a good sign and assigns his a new apprentice. Graypaw is his name and he slightly reminds Hareclaw of when he was younger. The younger tom is naturally curious and slightly rebellious, but most of the time it was harmless and the eager apprentice could be reeled in before he can hurt himself. A rather nasty fight occurs between NightClan and BrightClan around this time, in which Hareclaw participates in. Graypaw is told to stay in camp as he is not old, nor skilled, enough to be involved in such a fight. Graypaw disregards this however and sneaks out of camp and into the fray. He is killed by an enemy warrior and Hareclaw grieves him for a few moons. He begins to feel that he should not be given another apprentice, as he sees himself unfit to be responsible for another cat.
Moons pass and despite his objection, Hareclaw is assigned another apprentice. She's as gentle and timid as the snow she is named after but her eyes are full of wonder and he worries [he doesn't want what happened with Graypaw to repeat]. He stays with her whenever it's acceptable and is constantly on the look out for any dangers. His style of training is more strict with Snowpaw, but she never complains. Hareclaw briefly wonders if something like this happened to Thistleheart, and his being so harsh and obsessive was his way of looking out for his apprentice. Hareclaw is grateful and thanks his former mentor up in StarClan for taking such good care of him. Tragedy strikes yet again around this time, the river has flooded quite a bit due to a recent increase in storms, and Hollytail slips and is dragged away by the stronger than normal current. She is never found and the clan assumes that she drowned and mourn her.
With the death of Hollytail NightClan is without a deputy. After much deliberation, Hareclaw is named deputy.
Deputy; The novelty of being a deputy quickly wares off and Hareclaw falls into the positions quite readily. He feels that he has grown enough to accept these responsibilities, and for the most part cats respect and listen to him. He still has to train Snowpaw as well, so his life at this point becomes quite hectic. Between training an apprentice, planning patrols, and hunting for the clan, time seems to fly for the tom. Before he knows it the tiny apprentice he had been put in charge of all of those moons ago is being named a warrior, Snowpelt is her new name. She seems to glow under the attention of the clan and Hareclaw feels like a proud father who just watched his own kit be named a warrior. He and Snowpelt maintain a close relationship after this.
A scrap with a few senior warriors a moon later leaves Hareclaw licking both physical and emotional wounds. He begins to doubt his abilities as deputy, which isn't exactly appreciated at the time. A rabid fox has moved within their territory and someone needs to take decisive action. The leader is ill and the responsibility falls to Hareclaw. He makes the call he feels is best and safest for those involved, which was to not engage the fox if at all possible and hope it moves on, as they hadn't found any fox dens that smelled like they had been visited recently. The fox does eventually move on, and Hareclaw is praised for his decision. This reinstates a bit of his confidence and reminds him that their leader wouldn't have named him deputy if he didn't have his own confidence in Hareclaw's abilities.
The leader passes on a bit after this. He finally succumbs to the sickness that had been plaguing him and moves onto StarClan. Hareclaw allows his clan to mourn before he himself travels to receive his nine lives.
Leader; Being leader is strange for Harestar, but a good type of strange. Cats trust him and he cares for all of them deeply. He promises himself that he will always be fair to the and to serve them the best he could as their leader. A few moons into his leadership he loses his first life to whitecough. Dying and coming back to life was by far one of the strangest things that has ever happened to Harestar, and he decides he doesn't like it all that much.
A short time later a stray dog somehow manages to make it to NightClan's territory. It's vicious and attacks cats on sight, and it is decided that they couldn't leave it be like they had done with the fox previously. It had to be dealt with. Harestar and a few other warriors got to combat it, and Haretstar is wounded quite badly. These wounds later kill him while he is receiving treatment from the medicine cat. These wounds would later become infected, and despite said medicine cat's best efforts, Harestar loses yet another life.
Harestar has currently recovered from his wounds and has gotten back into the swing of running his clan.
