Lore:
Rain clan has been a monarchy since any-cat can remember. Being the first born kit of a leader meant that that cat would be the next leader assuming they survived kit-hood. The likes of Rookstar and other cats who go to gatherings just because the warrior code says they have to has kept many Rain clan cats in the dark that other clans don't follow the same tradition.
Only the cats of Rainstar's blood can become leader or deputy. Hawkstar's mother Maplestar was made leader at less than a moon old because her father and older brother were killed in a fight with another clan. Her mother and the medicine cat took no chances with the sickly kit and as soon as there was a warm day took her to get her nine lives.
They believe that if they loose the blood of Rainstar that no kits will survive to be warriors and that all of them when they die will go to the dark forest. Since no cat without Rainstar's blood can become leader or deputy the final moons of the clan would be without any leadership at all.
The leader's kits are always invited to share tongues with their mother/father and the leader often refuses to eat until their kits have. Despite apprentices being un-allowed to eat until the queens, elders, and kits have.
After all the word of the clan leader is the warrior code.
Rain clan is upset that brightclan has territory on 'their" side of the river and they do not respect this boundary. This has led to many fights.
Rain Clan is more conservative with its kits and battles, the cats in Rain clan have taken to water almost as much as fish have. Even the youngest apprentice knows how to swim making many clan attacks as simple to avoid as going into one of the nearby creeks or rivers and holding any rival clan warriors who are stupid enough to peruse with their heads under water- 2 or 3 rain clan warriors are usually enough to give the cat a near-drowning experience. It takes a extremely dire threat for these water loving cats to even unsheathe their claws.
Or a drought.
Though usually Brightclan is that threat.
It's not unusual for cats to stay kits until they've learned how to swim or are big enough to fight a current. Some aren't apprenticed until their 12th moon. Two-legs don't really spend time out side or fish anymore . They're more interested in the flash-making rocks some of the two-leg kits are always holding in their paws and squealing over than splashing around or disturbing the fish. This leaves little reason to worry about food or feeding un- productive mouths for a few extra moons.
Life is easy for these cats, as long as the river bank is high enough. The Two-leg place is so close that it's less than a day's trip for the medicine cat and apprentices to grab catmint . An elderly Two-leg and her dozen kittypets own the garden with the herb, but they're extremely friendly and a few feathers or a small fish is usually enough to gain safe passage through the garden.
When the water dries up in Green-leaf or a drought life gets harder as the Rain clan cats have to forage for food in the forest, which isn't always easy for them. More than once a warrior has gone with their tail tucked to the garden of the elderly two-leg and yowled at the entrance of the nest for food. Most of the time the leader and deputy turn a blind eye to this breaking of the warrior code as the food is always brought back to nursing queens.
